MASONS STILL LEAD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP AT RALLY WHANGAREI

Despite a rollover in stage two of Rally Whangarei, New Zealand Rallying's top couple, Richard and Sara Mason still lead the New Zealand Rally Championship [NZRC] at the start of Day Two.The Masterton Flyers got to within one kilometre of the end of the longest stage of the rally when their BNT Subaru clipped a bank and rolled.
"We were going well until we found a bank in the wrong place," said Sara.
"Unfortunately the damage to the radiator meant the end of the stage was the end of the line for us, but hey, these things happen," said a philosophical Richard.
"You certainly dont like to see your pride and joy looking rather secondhand, but now we have had a chance to have a close check, the damage is really only cosmetic. Rest assured we will be right back in the thick of the [championship] fight come Hawkes Bay at the end of July."
