BNT DUO TEAM UP TO TAKE ON ICONIC NZ RALLYSPRINT

Triple New Zealand Rally Champion Richard Mason will drive the Open Class Subaru Impreza owned by the winner of the 2010 Silver Fern Historic Rally, Jeff Judd, in what will be the vastly experienced Mason’s first attempt at the spiritual home of South Island Rallying.
The Masterton Flyer says he is really looking forward to competing in an event he remembers watching on TV as he was growing up in the 80's.
"The event is undergoing somewhat of a revival," said Richard, "and when Jeff and I had a chat before [Rally] Hawkes Bay, using his car seemed an ideal way to have a serious go at this iconic venue. And now that Inky [defending champion Glenn Inkster – Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5], Andrew [Hawkeswood – Audi Quattro] and Hayden [Paddon – Mitsubishi Cordia] are all going to be there, should make for an awesome weekend....”
“We both have a long and successful association with BNT and Dunlop,” said Jeff, “so this is a great way for them to have a significant presence as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of an event that has sparked the careers and interest of many of this country’s rally competitors and fans..”
Christchurch’s Judd, himself one of New Zealand’s most experienced competitors, both as a driver and co-driver, will power his Silver Fern winning BNT Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 up and down the daunting venue in the Classic 2WD category.
All competitors will have three timed runs around the 1.7 kilometre forest course of the TRANSNET-sponsored event on Saturday, with the quickest 32 coming back on Sunday. Then the competition starts in earnest, with the field being halved after each run through a series of Sudden Death eliminations, before only two remain for the final ‘Winner Takes All’ Shootout.

These annual awards are voted by the motoring public, with final judging being carried out by a panel of experienced, local motor industry specialists.
