ANNOUNCING - our 2010 car!!

We are pleased to announce that for the 2010 New Zealand Rally Championship we will be campaigning a top level Group N car, in the form of a Prodrive N2009 Subaru Impreza.

The car has only been used for approximately 10 kilometres of gravel testing, so it is brand new!

This car has meant a huge committment by us, but we know it will be well worth it. Prodrive is one of the world's leading motorsport businesses and our car will be the most professionally built and sophisticated Group N rally car ever seen in the NZRC.

The car is left had drive, and although we have previously owned right hand drive cars, we did use left hand drives in China.

Technical Type Information - Statement from Prodrive About Our Car

The N2009 is the second latest generation Subaru Impreza Group N from Prodrive. This unique car has been engineered by us to the latest FIA regulations and comes ready prepared for competition.

The Prodrive N2009 is homologated on a Japanese specification 2.0 litre WRX STI. Through testing and development, the N2009 has many improvements to its predecessor. This includes new software from Pectel Control Systems which improves integration with the CAN system and opens up more tuning possibilities. It also features improved suspension performance and durability and improved Kevlar guards for smooth gravel use to reduce weight.

We hand build each N2009 at our motorsport headquarters in Banbury, UK and finish it to the highest standards. More than 200 hours go into the bodyshell alone, which is fitted with a roll cage approved and tested by the FIA. Every engine is stripped and blue-printed before it is then rebuilt to the finest tolerances to extract every ounce of performance, while the gearboxes are stripped and rebuilt with five close ratio dog gears and a short throw gearchange. This meticulous attention to detail extends to the vehicle's trim where our composite engineers have designed and manufactured lightweight carbon fibre door panels, foot rests, and wing mirrors.

The N2009 features the extensive use of carbon fibre to ensure that it meets the minimum homologated weight of 1,365kg. We know what drivers and codrivers need in a rally car. That's why our carbon composite foot rests have been designed to carry essential equipment such as the jack and ratchet gun, while the carbon door panels have an additional reading light and even a built in pocket for small items like a mobile phone.

The N2009 has a large 5.5" colour screen with multiple pages covering engine and transmission information. Using this, Prodrive engineers can often diagnose instantly over the phone during an event, even when they are thousands of miles away.

What's Being Said?

"We definitely had to pull one out of the bag. We had the full on charge, and we were determined to have the win. It was absolutely flat-out on the last stage, we just had to work very very hard to keep it on the straight and narrow". Richard after the win at Rally Wairarapa June 2005

The Masterton Flyer has racked up 9 NZRC Round Wins in total – in three different cars. The BNT Subaru, known as EVOETA, has been bulletproof all season, and being the second oldest car (it’s a 2001 version 7 Impreza WRX) and always the heaviest by a substantial margin, Richard is delighted to win the NZRC again in a different car.

“Everyone knows ‘BYACAR” [their 2005 NZRC winning car] was a proven package [as the ex-Chris West Group N winner] so it was important to us to show we could do it again in another one."
